I’ve decided to bring some advertising into the site. Actually, that’s been my plan for a while, but it kind of stewed in my head for a while. I was waiting on having an actual design for the site, since I’d started this blog before giving it a real look and feel. Content is more important than design, but that doesn’t mean that design isn’t important.
Now that Freaking Bookworm has some personality, I thought it was time for some ads. I thought I’d share with you why as opposed to just slapping them up without a word.
While I would never put ads on my personal blog, I’m okay with putting them on a blog that I put a lot of time and money into. It costs me an average of $100 a year just to have this blog exist. Then, once I’ve factored in the books I buy that get reviewed, as well as the time I spend reviewing, and we’re looking at quite a chunk of change.
I’ll be straight up here: My goal is to monetize this blog. It always has been. What bookworm doesn’t like the idea of getting paid to read?
I figure this blog will at least help support my habit and help cover the maintenance costs. You, of course, don’t have to click on anything. I’m working on getting more relevant ads (although, within a couple of weeks, the Google Ads I have on now should start being more relevant), so that they might actually be helpful to you. Mainly, I’m trying to become a Barnes and Noble affiliate. They’ll put ads for their products — books! — here, and if you’re reading one of my reviews and want the book, it’ll be right there for you to buy. I would get a 6% commission, so everyone wins.
I refuse to, however, put so many ads up here that they’ll be distracting. If I do become a BN affiliate, you’ll see only the one square of Google and one square of BN. I hate sites that are obnoxious about their advertising, so I won’t do that here. You’ll also never see popups or other annoying ads. I’m trying to keep it simple, so that if you don’t want anything to do with them, you can easily ignore them.
I hope that you will continue to use Freaking Bookworm as your source for book reviews.
And speaking of books, what are you reading right now?
